Kyle Walker: “I’d Trade Premier League Title Just To Win With Spurs”

Veteran defender Kyle Walker has made a heartfelt revelation, saying he would give up one of his Premier League titles with Manchester City just to have been part of Tottenham Hotspur’s recent Europa League triumph.

Kyle Walker, who left Spurs in 2017 in a then-record £50 million deal to join City, has enjoyed an incredibly successful stint at the Etihad Stadium, winning 17 major honours including six Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League trophy.

Despite his successful career, the 35-year-old admitted on The Kyle Walker Podcast that winning a trophy with Spurs would have meant just as much, if not more.

“I’d probably give up one Premier League to win that [the Europa League] with Tottenham,” Walker said.

“I would, if I could change it, just to say that I was in that Spurs squad that won a trophy, [the first] since 2007.

“I know what it means. I’d give my second [Premier League title], it’s hard to give one away, but for what that moment meant [I would].”

Walker spent eight years at Tottenham after joining from Sheffield United in 2009, making 229 appearances in all competitions.

His closest moment to silverware with the club came in 2015 when Spurs lost the EFL Cup final 2-0 to Chelsea at Wembley.

Tottenham finally broke their 17-year trophy drought last month with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final, courtesy of Brennan Johnson’s first-half strike.

Walker also praised Spurs’ long-serving forward Son Heung-min, recalling the South Korean’s early days at the club.

“I remember him walking through the door from Leverkusen, it was like a rabbit in headlights, there were big characters back then,” he said.

“It was just nice personally for him. To go all that time, getting to all those finals, being that nearly person, but then to finally do it.”

Meanwhile, Walker’s own future remains in limbo. He was excluded from City’s FIFA Club World Cup squad and spent the latter half of the season on loan at AC Milan.

With one year left on his City contract, reports suggest that Turkish giants Fenerbahce, now managed by Jose Mourinho, are interested in signing the experienced full-back.
