Police arrest suspected gunrunners in Delta

Operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team of the Delta State Police Command have arrested suspected gunrunners during a sting operation.

The suspects were apprehended in the Okpanam area of Asaba, where two English single-barrel guns and 110 live cartridges were recovered from them.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the operation was carried out at about 4 pm last Friday, during which the team arrested one Ekene Chroma, a 36-year-old female native of Issele-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, and one Okafor Jonathan, 18, a native of Onicha-Ugbo in the same local government area. Both individuals reside in Okpanam.

“Upon search, two English single-barrel [guns] and 110 live cartridges were recovered. Preliminary investigations revealed that they were suspected of being involved in the business of gun running. Suspects and exhibits are in custody while the investigation is ongoing,” Edafe revealed.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, extended his deepest appreciation to members of the public who have been assisting the police by providing useful information that operatives of the command have worked with to achieve these numerous successes.

Abaniwonda emphasised that such outcomes would not have been possible without public support, and he urged other well-meaning residents of the state to partner with the police in the ongoing effort to ensure a safer Delta State.
