Benue Assembly lifts suspension of six lawmakers

The Benue State House of Assembly has officially lifted the suspension of six out of the thirteen members previously barred from legislative activities.

DAILY POST learnt that the decision followed the submission of an appeal and a letter of apology by the six lawmakers to the House.

The reinstated members are: Hon. Simon Gabo, Hon. Elias Audu, Hon. Solomon Gyila, Hon. William Ortyom, Hon. Blessed Onah, and Hon. Anyor Mato.

They were among the thirteen legislators suspended for dissociating themselves from the removal of the state Chief Judge, Justice Maurice Ikpambese.

The lawmakers had described the removal of the Chief Judge as “unconstitutional” and a violation of the principles of separation of powers and fair hearing.

During plenary on Tuesday, the House, through a voice vote, resolved that the remaining seven suspended members would not be recalled unless they formally submit an appeal to the House.
