Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin, has presented himself at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja after a viral video surfaced online allegedly showing him holding a firearm during an encounter with a road user in Lagos.
The development was confirmed by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, via a WhatsApp message to our correspondent.
The video clip, which circulated widely last week, depicted Pastor Adefarasin holding a metallic object while engaging in a conversation with a passerby who was recording the incident.
The footage sparked speculation on social media, with many suggesting that the cleric was wielding a firearm.34
Pastor Adefarasin released a statement on his official social media platforms, addressing his congregation and clarifying the situation.
He described the public interpretation of the video as a misunderstanding, maintaining that the object in question was not a weapon and stressing that he did not threaten or aim it at anyone.
Confirming his appearance at the Command, CSP Hundeyin stated: “No one is above the law. Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, and is currently being interrogated by detectives.”
He added that investigations into the incident have commenced, particularly in light of the video showing the pastor holding what appeared to be a gun-like object while operating an unregistered vehicle.
“The outcome of the investigation will be made public,” Hundeyin said.
