The Benue paramount ruler, Tor Tiv James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, has urged President Bola Tinubu to give the state peace.
Ayatse said Tinubu should give the state peace so that farmers can return to their farmlands.
He made the call in Makurdi, the state capital.
The paramount ruler disclosed that Benue State gave Tinubu a significant number of votes during the last elections, hence he should ensure peace reigns in the state.
He said: “Give us peace so that our people can go back to their farm, I heard of a story in Kwara State when they cried you gave them peace.”
Tinubu is in Benue State following the killings in Yelewata in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Over 300 people have been killed by suspected herders in the last few days.
Tinubu’s visit to Benue State has triggered a wave of public anger and condemnation following allegations that schoolchildren were compelled to line the streets under heavy rain to welcome him
Despite a statewide public holiday declared by the Benue State Government, eyewitnesses report that schoolchildren from government-owned institutions were mobilized for the welcome rally, many of them soaked as they stood in the rain for hours.
