Benue: We didn’t vote for you on basis of religion, ethnicity – Tor Tiv tells Tinubu

The paramount ruler of the Tiv nation, His Royal Highness, Prof James Ayatse, has called on President Bola Tinubu to do everything to protect the Benue people, saying the people did not vote for him on the basis of religion or ethnicity.

Ayatse made the appeal on Wednesday, when Tinubu paid a condolence visit to the state to commiserate with the people over the killing of over 200 persons last Friday.

The paramount ruler who decried the gruesome murder of Benue people, further said the activities of the herders have chased Benue farmers out of their farms, which is their basic source of livelihood.

“Your Excellency, I want to tell you that the people of Benue state voted not on the basis of religion, nor on the basis of ethnicity, but on the basis of merit, standard and capacity. In 2023, Benue people went out en-masse and voted for you.

“You have taken hard decisions and actions that many people before you did not dare. You have handled the subsidy challenge of this country, the exchange rates in this country, and other difficult decisions you have taken, you can give us peace in Benue state,” he said.
