The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented a Certificate of Return to Kamilu Sa’idu, winner of the Kaura Namoda South State Constituency by-election in Zamfara State.
Naija News reports that the presentation was held on Monday at the INEC office in Gusau, the state capital, following the rerun election last Thursday in five polling units across two registration areas.
INEC had earlier declared the August 16 by-election in 109 polling units across six registration areas of Kaura Namoda Local Government to be inconclusive due to reports of irregularities in some voting centres.
Presenting the certificate, Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mahammud Isah, described the process as a reflection of democratic values.
He said, “It was a free, fair and credible election. I commend all stakeholders for making the exercise successful and for upholding democracy.”
Isah congratulated the APC lawmaker-elect and urged him to focus on delivering meaningful development to his constituency.
In his remarks, the Zamfara State APC Chairman, Alhaji Danfulani Maikatako, expressed satisfaction with INEC and security operatives over the conduct of both the by-election and rerun.
He said, “This victory signifies the acceptance of our party in Zamfara. In 2027, APC will reclaim its stolen mandate. Even in the 2023 elections, it was our supporters who voted PDP into power due to misunderstandings among our leaders.”
Maikatako assured party members that issues within the APC would be addressed ahead of the next general elections.
Responding after receiving his certificate, Sa’idu thanked party leaders and supporters for entrusting him with their mandate.
“I promise to use my experience to bring meaningful development to Kaura Namoda South and Zamfara State at large,” the lawmaker-elect said.
