Tyson Fury Reveals Why He Stopped Supporting Manchester United, England

Tyson Fury

British heavyweight boxer, Tyson Fury has admitted he no longer has any passion for football, blaming Manchester United’s decline and England’s painful Euro 2016 exit for his loss of interest in the sport.

Tyson Fury, who has been a regular face at Old Trafford in the past, said United’s struggles in recent years have left him uninterested in the game.

“I’m not a supporter of football really,” the 37-year-old told Racing TV during an interview at Cartmel Racecourse earlier this week. “I used to support United, but because they’re in the s*** now, I’m no supporter of any football teams anymore.”

United, 13-time Premier League champions, have endured a turbulent spell since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

The club has failed to mount a serious title challenge for over a decade and slumped to 15th in the league last season, their worst finish since the Premier League’s rebrand in 1992.

Tyson Fury who has attended high-profile matches including United’s Champions League clash with Barcelona in 2019, revealed that his frustrations with the sport go beyond club football.

“I used to support England as well, but when they lost to Iceland in the Euros in 2016, that was me and football completely done with. Now I’m into horse racing, get up,” he added.

England’s shock 2-1 defeat to Iceland in the round of 16 at Euro 2016 is still regarded as one of the national team’s most humiliating nights in modern football history. The defeat also marked the end of Roy Hodgson’s reign as manager.

For many United fans, Fury’s frustrations will feel familiar. The club has only managed one top-four finish in the last four seasons, and their rocky start to the current campaign, a 1-0 loss to Arsenal on opening day followed by a 1-1 draw with Fulham, suggests the struggles are far from over.
