Manchester City have confirmed the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain, with the Italian goalkeeper putting pen to paper on a five-year contract that runs until the summer of 2030.
Gianluigi Donnarumma, 26, widely regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers in world football, joins Pep Guardiola’s treble-winning squad with a wealth of elite experience under his belt.
Standing at 6ft 5ins, Donnarumma brings a commanding presence between the posts, alongside a career glittered with silverware at both club and international level.
After bursting onto the scene as a 16-year-old with AC Milan, Donnarumma made more than 250 appearances for the Rossoneri and helped them lift the 2016 Italian Super Coppa.
His next chapter took him to Paris in 2021, where he won four Ligue 1 titles, two Coupe de France crowns and three Trophee des Champions. The crowning glory came earlier this year when he played a key role in PSG’s first-ever UEFA Champions League triumph, a 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the final.
On the international stage, he is remembered for his heroic saves in the EURO 2020 final shootout against England at Wembley, which earned Italy the title and won him the Player of the Tournament award.
Speaking after sealing the move, Donnarumma said: “To have signed for Manchester City is such a special and proud moment for me. I am joining a squad packed with world-class talent and a team led by one of the greatest managers in football, Pep Guardiola. This is a club every player in world football would love to join.”
City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, hailed the signing as a major coup: “Gianluigi’s pedigree, quality and record speaks for itself, and we are all absolutely thrilled he has joined us. From a remarkably young age, he has played at the very top level. That is unusual for a goalkeeper and it means he arrives here as one of the best in the world in his position.”
