Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi has been left out of Nottingham Forest’s squad for the Europa League, following the club’s official submission to UEFA on Wednesday.
While Taiwo Awoniyi’s absence will disappoint many Nigerian fans, his international teammate Ola Aina has made the cut and will represent Forest in the European competition.
The squad also features some of Forest’s biggest names, including Chris Wood, Neco Williams, Morgan Gibbs-White, Douglas Luiz and Callum Hudson-Odoi. Their inclusion shows that the head coach, Nuno Espírito Santo, wants to rely on a blend of experience and emerging talent as the club prepares for its continental challenge.
Forest will face a tough group-stage campaign against strong opposition such as FC Porto, Real Betis, Braga, Malmö, Utrecht, Sturm Graz, Midtjylland and Ferencváros.
Awoniyi, who has battled injuries in recent months, remains an important figure at Forest. Still, his omission suggests the coaching staff are prioritising fitness and form ahead of the demanding European fixtures.
