She spoke of the difficult decisions her mother was forced to make, the sacrifices she had to endure, and the emotional distance that often existed between them. She believes that her mother’s life was a series of trade-offs, and that while she did the best she could, she was never able to fully escape the consequences of her choices.

In Morayo Afolabi-Brown’s words: “I asked you if you thought your mother was happy by the time she passed, and you said you were not sure. There are many layers. My mother, as much as she tried to fix a lot of things, it was difficult for her to fix it. In her life. She knew that growing up, she had made certain decisions. Unfortunately, she was forced to live with those decisions. And I think I knew her hurts, I knew her pain, I knew what she was going through. But I couldn’t help her.
