The Executive Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area, Hon James Melvin Ejeh, has announced an immediate and total ban on all logging activities within the council, citing rising insecurity and environmental degradation as key concerns.
In an official press statement, Chairman Ejeh stated that the move became necessary due to the alarming increase in criminal activities linked to unchecked logging operations.
According to him, “The incessant logging has not only caused severe environmental degradation but has also provided cover for criminal elements to operate freely.” He described the development as a “grave concern” requiring urgent and decisive intervention.
From now on, all logging operations within Agatu must receive direct authorization from the Chairman’s office.
“Anyone found engaging in logging without proper clearance will face the full weight of the law,” he warned.
Ejeh also appealed to residents to support the directive by remaining vigilant and reporting unauthorized logging to the authorities.
He stressed that public cooperation is critical to restoring peace, protecting natural resources, and securing the area in the long term.
