Police arrest 2 armed robbery suspects in Niger

The Police Command in Niger State has announced the arrest of two robbery suspects in Suleja and the recovery of several stolen items.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday in Minna by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun.

Abiodun stated that on June 13, at about 2 am, a distress call was received at the ‘B’ Division in Suleja, reporting the presence of suspected armed robbers in the APC Quarters area.

Upon receiving the report, the police patrol team from the Division, alongside the command’s Tactical Support Team and some soldiers, mobilised to the location.

“On sighting the security team, the robbers fled, but the team pursued them and apprehended two suspects in a mango forest along the Abuja–Kaduna expressway in the Gauraka area.

“The two suspects, aged 20 and 24 respectively, claimed to be indigenes of Kano State.

“We recovered from them exhibits including one axe, one knife, four bags, six wrappers, ten ATM cards, two purses, slippers and other items believed to have been stolen,” he said.

The command’s spokesperson added that preliminary investigation indicated the suspects had robbed several lodgers in hotels and private residences at APC Quarters 2, Suleja.

He further noted that the suspects would soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
