Court remands man for raping 19-year-old girl in Ekiti

A Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, has ordered that a 24-year-old man, Elijah Innocent, be held in correctional custody for allegedly raping a 19-year-old girl.

The prosecuting officer, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the alleged offence contravened Section 265(1) of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021.

Oriyomi also noted that the case file has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal review and further directives.

Presiding over the matter, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun directed that the defendant be remanded in custody and adjourned the case to July 8 for further mention.
