Super Eagles Goalie, John Noble Joins Rivers United, Gavi Moves To Azerbaijan

John Noble

Out-of-favour Super Eagles of Nigeria invitee, John Noble, has returned to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

John Noble, a 32-year-old goalkeeper, sealed a deal with NPFL side Rivers United. He arrived at the former Nigerian league champions after a stint in the Tanzanian league, where he played for Tabora United and, most recently, Singida Fountain Gate.

Note that the former Enyimba goalkeeper won the NPFL title with the Aba giants in 2023. He is already training with his new teammates as Rivers United prepare for a demanding CAF Champions League campaign under head coach Finidi George.

Noble’s arrival is seen as a significant boost for the Port Harcourt-based club. With his wealth of experience on the domestic and continental stage, he is expected to bring leadership and stability to the team’s backline.

Meanwhile, former Nigeria U-20 international Thompson Gavi has signed a one-year deal with a top-tier club in Azerbaijan, FK Karvan Yevlakh.

Gavi made the move from Sporting Lagos, a club competing in Nigeria’s second division, the National League.

The midfielder shared his excitement about the move on social media, writing: “New chapter, excited for this one.”

Gavi is not new to European football. Before his stint with Sporting Lagos, he had a spell in Israel with Hapoel Afula.
