“I Don’t Know What’s Wrong With Him” - Football Expert Slams Victor Osimhen After Derby Incident

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has come under intense criticism following his heated confrontation with Emirhan Topcu during the Istanbul Derby, where Besiktas and Galatasaray played out a tense 1-1 draw.

Turkish football expert Nihat Kahveci, a respected analyst and former national team player, has joined a growing list of pundits condemning Osimhen’s behavior. Speaking on his YouTube channel after the match, Kahveci accused the Nigerian forward of displaying excessive aggression and questioned why the match officials failed to take stronger action.

“I don’t know what’s wrong with Osimhen; he’s very aggressive on the pitch. He ran and fought a lot again today,” Kahveci said, according to Fanatik. “There’s a leg swing towards Emirhan — why can’t I see a replay? That could have been a red card. If he swung his right foot deliberately, VAR would have given a red. Then there was a strangling attack. Look, it’s a yellow card for sure, but let’s watch the replay!”

The incident occurred midway through the second half when Osimhen and Besiktas defender Emirhan Topcu clashed after a rough challenge. Television replays showed Osimhen grabbing the Turkish defender by the neck in a moment of frustration. The confrontation quickly escalated before teammates and match officials intervened. Osimhen’s compatriot, Wilfred Ndidi, who now plays for Besiktas, was among those who stepped in to calm the situation.

Fans and commentators in Turkey and Nigeria have since taken to social media to criticize the Napoli star for what many described as an unnecessary show of aggression. Some supporters defended him, citing his passion and competitive nature, while others urged him to maintain better composure in high-pressure matches.

The derby ended 1-1, but the aftermath has been dominated by discussions of Osimhen’s temperament. Turkish media outlets have called for disciplinary review, while fans debate whether his fiery attitude is an asset or a liability on the pitch.
