Minimum Wage Increased — More Benefits Coming for Civil Servants, According to Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to enhancing workers’ welfare and improving living conditions across Nigeria, particularly for civil servants who form the backbone of public service.

Speaking during an interview on Viable TV, Akpabio reflected on Nigeria’s resilience since independence, describing the nation’s endurance through civil war, insecurity, and economic turbulence as a testament to divine grace rather than mere human effort. “Nigeria’s survival and growth over the years show that God’s hand is truly upon this nation,” he said.

The Senate President outlined several key reforms initiated by the current administration to improve the lives of ordinary citizens. He confirmed that the minimum wage has been increased, adding that the government is equally focused on creating a better and more conducive working environment for public employees to boost efficiency and morale.

Akpabio also highlighted recent tax reforms, noting that individuals earning below ₦1 million annually are now exempt from paying taxes — a policy aimed at providing economic relief for traders, artisans, and other low-income earners. He further commended ongoing progress in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, stating that these developments indicate Nigeria’s steady journey toward transformation.

On security, Akpabio praised the courage and sacrifices of the nation’s armed forces, asserting that despite global terrorism challenges, Nigeria has remained united and secure. He expressed optimism that continued investments in infrastructure, agriculture, and technology will expand economic opportunities and foster sustainable growth.

In closing, the Senate President called for patience and faith from Nigerians, assuring that ongoing reforms are designed to build a stronger, fairer, and more prosperous nation for all.
