I’ve Slept Under A Flower Before In A Camp Meeting Because I’m Desperately Looking For Jesus-Oyedepo

In a recent video on Facebook by Church Gist, Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, has shared a personal story from his early Christian days to encourage believers to value encounters with God above personal comfort. Speaking during a recent service, Bishop Oyedepo recalled how he once slept under a flower at a camp meeting in his search for Jesus. He said the experience was a turning point that deepened his hunger for God and shaped his spiritual journey. “I’ve slept under a flower before in a camp meeting while looking for Jesus,” he said. “When a man is truly desperate for God, comfort loses its meaning. The hunger for His presence consumes every other thing.”
In his message, the revered cleric stressed that divine encounters are not found in convenience but in sacrifice. He noted that many people today are seeking God casually and therefore missing out on life-changing encounters. According to him, “There is no genuine encounter with God that happens in a careless atmosphere. You have to pay the price for His presence. I was desperate, I was hungry, and I was willing to go anywhere just to find Him.” He explained that those who truly desire transformation must be ready to step out of their comfort zones and seek God wholeheartedly.
Bishop Oyedepo went on to encourage members of the church and Christians across the world to prepare earnestly for Shiloh 2025, the annual global convention of the Living Faith Church. The event, scheduled to hold from December 9th to 14th, 2025, at the Faith Tabernacle, Canaanland, Ota, Ogun State, is themed around divine encounters and breakthroughs. “From 9th – 14th December 2025 (Shiloh 2025), endeavour to be there at all costs,” he said. “It’s not just another programme; it’s a divine appointment. Many destinies have been turned around in one Shiloh night.”
He emphasized that the same God who met him during his days of spiritual pursuit is still reaching out to those who seek Him today. “God has not changed,” he said. “If you seek Him the way I sought Him, you will find Him. The same fire that fell in those days is still burning.” Bishop Oyedepo admonished the congregation not to let distractions, excuses, or distance rob them of the opportunity to experience God in a new dimension. He added that people should make every possible effort to attend, whether physically or virtually, as the blessings of Shiloh transcend geographical boundaries.
Reflecting further on his past experiences, the bishop spoke about the importance of determination in spiritual growth. “Those who take God casually end up as casualties in life,” he warned. “If you truly want to see God move in your life, you must seek Him with all your heart.” He described his early years in ministry as seasons of hunger and pursuit, when he was willing to make any sacrifice just to encounter God’s presence. He said it was those moments of deep surrender that birthed the divine vision leading to the global impact of the Living Faith Commission today.
Bishop Oyedepo concluded by urging believers not to let comfort or convenience hinder their spiritual progress. “The reason many people don’t see results is because they are too comfortable. God is found by those who are desperate for Him,” he said. He reiterated that Shiloh is a prophetic mountain of transformation, declaring that testimonies will abound as people come with expectant hearts. “Come ready, come hungry, and come determined,” he said. “God will meet you there.”
